Objectives

The EUROMUSE Project aims to connect music and museums through research, co-creation, and applied composition, developing a new interpretive and emotional dimension of museum experience.

EUROMUSE is a Creative Europe Cooperation Project.

Below are the project’s Specific Objectives

Establish Community Muse Boards (CMBs)

To create Community Muse Boards (CMBs) as new participatory museum groups composed of volunteer visitors who actively support museum professionals in the creative process.

These groups provide composers with essential insights about visitors’ experiences — how they imagine, perceive, and emotionally respond to music before and after composition. CMBs remain connected to their museums beyond the project’s duration, ensuring sustainable and continuous creative engagement.

Build Capacity of Museum Professionals and Composers

To strengthen the capacity of museum professionals and composers through four expert trainings and one residency program, providing the knowledge and skills needed to establish and manage CMBs, and to integrate original music across physical and digital museum platforms.

  • Training 1: Community management in cultural institutions (2-day program) – 3 museums, 6 professionals
  • Training 2: Research coordination with composers, CMB members, and visitors (2-day program) – 3 museums, 6 professionals
  • Training 3: Audio content enhancement and technical integration of original music (2-day program) – 3 museums, 6 professionals
  • Training 4: EUROMUSE composition methodology (2-day program) – 6 composers, leading to 6 compositions, 1 album, and 6 live/online concerts
  • Residency: 6 composers × 7 days × 3 museums (Rome, Athens, Mação)

Develop an Innovative Research Model

To design and implement a new research model addressing current museological needs in both physical and digital environments.
The model includes:

  1. Qualitative research tracking the co-creation process among CMBs, composers, and museum professionals.
  2. Quantitative research testing visitor experience under silent and music-enhanced conditions.

Create a New Applied Music Subgenre

To develop a new applied music subgenre — synomusic, or applied music for museums — through participatory creation of original site-specific compositions for each museum, enhancing ambiance, communication, and emotional engagement in heritage settings.

Digitalize Museum Communication Platforms

To apply and adapt the newly composed original music across all museum digital channels — including websites, 3D/AR/VR content, online exhibitions, and live concerts — while also producing a project documentary film.

Establish the EUROMUSE Network

To launch a new European cultural network — the EUROMUSE Network, gathering museums that integrate an auditive layer into their visitor experience.
This network will promote applied music as a tool for audience engagement and capacity building in the cultural sector.
